George DeAugustino completed his fifth season as the head women’s soccer coach at Waynesburg in 2025, which turned into arguably the greatest year in program history.
With DeAugustino at the helm, Waynesburg set a new program record for victories after going 17-3-2 overall. The season ended with the team's first Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship thanks to a 1-0 win over Keene State. Prior to its run in the ECAC tournament, the Jackets advanced to the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) title game for the first time since 2011, which pitted them against Grove City.
Not surprisingly, the 2025 Waynesburg squad boasted a conference-best five first-team All-PAC selections, a second-team honoree and an honorable mention pick. The Orange and Black added five United Soccer Coaches all-region honorees and four first-team All-ECAC selections.The team's academic laurels were just as impressive as its athletic ones. Six Yellow Jackets were named to the CSC Academic All-District teams, four were lauded with spots on the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-East Region teams and an impressive 20 members of the roster qualified for the PAC Fall Academic Honor Roll. Then-junior Julz Mohrbacher and then-senior Reagan Mittendorf were recognized by the PAC as SAAC Scholar-Athletes of the Month.
The Jacket women were also honored for its on-field conduct by being named one of just 45 teams, men or women, across all three divisions of the NCAA that received a 2025 United Soccer Coaches Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award. The accolade, which is tiered into Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze versions, recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season based on the number of cards accumulated divided by the number of games played (i.e., five cards divided by 20 games played is 0.25 or 25%, which qualifies for a Silver Award).
Waynesburg was one of 19 teams to receive a Bronze award, which is presented to a program that accumulated a percentage of cards ranking from 31 to 50%.
In 2023, DeAugustino led the Jackets to their first Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Tournament victory since 2011 and conference semifinal appearance since 2012. Waynesburg finished fifth in the conference standings and earned a 1-0 double overtime victory at Washington & Jefferson to advance to the PAC semifinals. Waynesburg’s 9-7-2 record in 2023 marked its winningest season in over a decade and the Jackets’ matched a program record with five league wins.
Waynesburg followed that breakthrough campaign with an 8-5-4 season, a sixth-place finish in the PAC standings and a return trip to the PAC Tournament in 2024. The Jackets achieved back-to-back winning seasons and postseason berths for the first time since 2010-11.
The Jackets recorded the No. 2 goals against average (1.118) in the PAC in 2024 and landed five players on the PAC all-conference teams. Waverly Lorne and Julz Mohrbacker were named All-PAC First Team as Waynesburg had four first- or second-team selections, the most for the program since 1999.
The Jackets have claimed 17 all-conference honors and 14 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District picks over DeAugustino’s first four years at the helm. Midfielder Kate James became Waynesburg’s first All-PAC First Team selection and United Soccer Coaches all-region pick in a decade and the first All-ECAC player in program history after the 2023 season. Mohrbacher followed as an all-region selection in 2024.
DeAugustino came to Waynesburg University in the summer of 2021 after serving as the associate head coach of the women's team at NCAA Division III member Marian in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin.
DeAugustino was named associate head coach of the Sabres in 2020. That season, Marian went 4-6 overall and 4-4 in Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) play. At the end of that season, five of DeAugustino's players were named to the All-NAAC North Team.
DeAugustino initially joined Marian as an assistant coach in July, 2017, before becoming associate head coach. He arrived at Marian after serving as a graduate assistant for Anderson University where he earned his Masters of Business Administration. In his two seasons with Anderson, the Ravens went a combined 15-14-3 with an 8-5-2 record on the road. The Ravens also had nine student-athletes earn All-HCAC recognition. In the classroom, Anderson was lauded as an NSCAA All-Academic team both seasons for maintaining a team grade point average above 3.0.
No stranger to Western Pennsylvania and the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), DeAugustino spent his collegiate playing days at Grove City, where he was a four-year starter on defense and a team captain and team MVP as a senior. That same season, he was named a first team All-PAC pick and helped lead Grove City to the conference championship game. He was also named a second team All-PAC defender during his junior year. That same season, his Wolverine teammates voted him as their Most Outstanding Junior.
By the time he graduated from Grove City, he tallied three goals and an assist over 69 collegiate starts.
Prior to joining the Wolverines, DeAugustino forged a decorated high school Career at Seneca Valley. Over four years with the Raiders, he was twice named an All-WPIAL performer and a two-time all-section selection. In 2010, he was voted Team MVP. Along with his escapades on the pitch, DeAugustino was a track standout at Seneca Valley. He was a part of the Raiders' WPIAL championship 4x400-meter relay squad that also took third at the PIAA Championships 11th at the New Balance National Championships.
DeAugustino has earned his United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma, Goalkeeping Level 1 Diploma and National Diploma.
