GRANTHAM, Pa. (Jan. 21) – Members of the Waynesburg University wrestling team braved the snow and ice on Saturday to compete at the Messiah Open. The Yellow Jackets made the best of the trip, as four of their own finished in the top four of their respective weight classes at the un-scored event.

Sophomore Anthony Bonaventura led the contingency by winning the 184-pound title. The Commack, N.Y. native went 3-0 on the day to take the crown and gutted out three one-point decision victories. Bonaventura defeated Tom Kuegler of the host Falcons in the championship bout by the final score of 10-9.

Sophomore Cameron Fine placed second in the 174-pound weight class, while sophomore Sam Lombardo (165) and freshman Sam Guidi (174) both finished in fourth place at their respective weights. Fine scored two wins by fall, while Lombardo added one win by pin on the day.

The Yellow Jacket mat men return to dual competition on Wednesday, Jan. 25, when they host Division II Ohio Valley at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. Start time for the match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
