Women's tennis drops hard-fought road match

Yellow Jackets win two-of-three doubles contests, but fall 5-4 at Thomas More

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. (Sept. 24) – The Waynesburg University women's tennis team took two of the three double matchups against Thomas More on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the Yellow Jackets suffered a heart-breaking 5-4 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss.

The Jackets (2-5, 2-2) got off to a strong start with wins at second and third doubles. Senior Kelsey Diesel and sophomore Markie Gustafson took an 8-4 win at the number-two spot and the freshman duo of Ellen Limback and Madison DuBrock gave their team an early lead with an 8-3 win at the third spot.

Though Waynesburg managed just two wins in the singles ranks, the Jackets were just a few game points away from having the win go their way. Limback was victorious at fourth singles in straight sets by the scores of 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. Senior teammate Jessica Kody was also a straight-set winner (6-2, 6-4) at the fifth spot. The match ultimately came down to an all-out battle at first singles. Unfortunately, senior Rebeka Reyes came out on the short end of a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) Decision.

The Jackets will try to shake off the tough loss before Thursday, Sept. 29, when they host Chatham for another PAC match. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
