Jacket women impress at home invitational

Paul's third-place performance leads Waynesburg to second-place finish

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 10) – The Waynesburg University women's cross country team showed that it could be one of the best in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) this season at its annual home invitational. The event was held on Saturday at the Greene County Airport.

The Yellow Jackets placed second amongst the 11 teams competing and finished just 20 points behind the 24-time defending conference champions from Grove City. Geneva College rounded out the top three team finishers.

The home team was led by sophomore standout Bre Paul, who finished third overall out of 107 competitors. Paul crossed the finish line in 24:39.3, trailing only the individual medalist, Ivette Mejia of Saint Vincent (23:22.6) and Washington & Jefferson's Kristen Galligan (24:04.4).

The Yellow Jackets saw several of their own put in quick times, including senior Michelle Naymick, who finished in 11th place overall (25:34.9), and freshman Joy Talbott, who crossed the finish line just behind Naymick in 12th place (25:40.2). Sophomore Tiffany Onifer contributed another top-20 performance for her team after crossing the finish line in 19th place (26:18.6), while junior Megan Donovan finished 22nd with a time of 26:30.4.

Waynesburg will look to hold on to the momentum from today's outstanding performance for two weeks as they prepare for their next race, which is the Dickinson Invitational on Sept. 24.
