ERIE, Pa. (April 30) – Led by two second-place individual finishers, the Waynesburg University men's tennis team finished in fourth place at the 2011 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Tennis Championships, which wrapped up on Saturday at the Pennbriar Athletic Club.
The Yellow Jackets recorded 16 team points, which placed them in a tie for fourth with Bethany College and just two points behind Westminster College for third place.
Both of the Jackets runner-up finishes came in the singles ranks. Leading the way was sophomore Jon Anderson, as he placed second at fourth singles. He dropped a 6-1, 6-1 championship match to top-seeded Scott Yanak of Grove City. It is the second consecutive year that Anderson lost to Yanak for first place at the PAC Championships.
Junior David Floyd couldn't get past Grove City's Stephen Harrison, but still picked up a second-place finish after falling 6-1, 6-1. The Jackets' Emile Khoury picked up a third place finish at second singles after defeating Derek Frederickson of Westminster 6-2, 6-3.
Floyd later teamed up with freshman Nate Huffman to earn a third place finish, defeating Saint Vincent's Nicholas Latterner and Shawn Lehman 8-4 at third doubles.
Grove City rolled to its 21st-straight team title after scoring 54 team points. Grove City's senior Ricky Garrett was named 2011 PAC Player of the Year after winning the number-one singles title. Grove City's Joe Walters repeated as PAC Coach of the Year.
