LATROBE, Pa. (April 14) – The Waynesburg University men's golf team opened its season on Thursday at the Doug Rogers Memorial/Saint Vincent Bearcat Invitational.
The Yellow Jackets placed eighth in the 11-team field with a four-man score of 348 at the Par-72 Latrobe Country Club. Sophomore
Colin Wilson led the Jackets by firing a 10-over 82, which tied him for 14
th in the 59-man field.
Senior
Kevin McIlwain was Waynesburg's next highest finisher after shooting an 85, which put him in a five-way tie for 27
th.
Aaron Mansfield chipped in an 87, which placed him 35
th overall, while senior
Ryan Hartz completed the Jackets' scoring quartet with a 51
st-place score of 94. Senior
Brent Heckel added a 53
rd-place score of 98.
Washington & Jefferson took home the team title with a four-man score of 312. Grove City Crimson (323) and Saint Vincent Gold (324) rounded out the top three team finishers. Individual medalist honors went to SVC Gold's Steve Fiori, who carded an even-par 72. W&J's EJ Morascyzk (76) placed second, while the Presidents' Brad Cieslinski and Thiel's Bryan Smith tied for third.
Waynesburg returns to the course on Saturday, when they compete in the Thiel Invitational.
