Women's soccer falls in PAC Finals

Yellow Jackets drop 3-0 contest to Thomas More

Box Score

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. (Nov. 4) The Waynesburg women's soccer team came up just short in its bid to win the first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) women's soccer championship in school history on Friday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets just couldn't seem to get things moving against a stifling Thomas More team and fell to the Saints 3-0.

Thomas More (12-4-1, 7-1-1) controlled the tempo from the game's outset, seemingly forcing the Jackets to play defense for most of the afternoon. The Saints outshot their opponents 24-0, while also controlling possession for a majority of the contest with an 18-0 advantage on corner kicks.

Thomas More found the back of the net in the 17th minute with Kirstie Reilman's header going in off a corner kick from Lauren Wietmarschen. Trailing 1-0, the Yellow Jackets were able to keep the game to a single-goal deficit at halftime. Unfortunately for the Jacket defense, which did all it could to keep its team alive, the Saints were able to capitalize twice in the last 15 minutes of the match to seal the victory.

Waynesburg was led by senior goalkeeper Katrina Kelly, who made 10 saves and kept the game close until the final few minutes of play.

Even though Friday's game didn't go as Waynesburg had hoped, it was one of few disappointments in a memorable year for the Yellow Jackets. The Orange and Black won its most games since before 2001 (15-5-1), posted a 5-3-1 conference record and won 11-straight games from Sept. 3 to Oct. 5. The Jackets now await word on whether or not they will receive a bid to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship tournament.
