VIENNA, W.Va. (Jan. 11) – Aided by four forfeits, the Waynesburg wrestling team ended its three-week layoff from competition with a lop-sided 45-3 victory over Division-II Ohio Valley University on Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets (7-2-1) got the night off on the right foot thanks to sophomore 125-pounder Alex Crown, who won a 9-4 decision to put his team ahead 3-0. After back-to-back forfeits at 133 and 141 pounds gave the Jackets a 15-0 lead, freshman Luke Lohr continued his outstanding rookie season at Waynesburg with an 11-1 major decision victory.

The Jackets' lead grew to 25-0 when junior 157-pounder Garrett Johnston pinned Coleby Richards in 1:23 to record the only fall for either team on the night. A 16-0 technical fall victory by junior Alex Evanoff at 165, and a forfeit awarded to junior Jared Roberts at 174 put the match away with a 36-0 Jacket lead.

The Fighting Scots (3-6) earned a decision victory at 184 to break up the shutout (36-3). However, the Jackets finished the evening with victories at 197 pounds and heavyweight courtesy of freshmen Jake Linn and Brandon Fedorka, respectively. Linn won by forfeit, while Fedorka needed two overtimes to put away Blake Lucas by 2-1 decision to bring about the final score of 45-3.

The two teams will see each other again on Saturday when OVU comes to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse to take part in the seven-team Waynesburg Invitational. Before that, the Yellow Jackets return to action on Friday, when they host Mercyhurst North East for a 7 p.m. match.
