Waynesburg women come back to down La Roche
Yellow Jackets pick up first win of the season by the score of 2-1

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Sept. 7) – After falling behind early, the Waynesburg University women’s soccer team came back to win its first game of the season by the final score of 2-1 at La Roche.

 

The Redhawks (0-3) took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but the Jackets tied the game at 1-1 on a goal by junior forward Courtney Ebersole with 26:33 to go in the game. Freshman Susie Godwin assisted on the game-tying score. With the game tied at 1-1 and 13:27 left in the game, junior Terrin Crist buried the game-winning goal on an assist from Ebersole to seal the deal.

 

Junior keeper Katrina Kelly made four saves in net to lead her team to victory.

 

The win was the first women’s victory for new head coach Sean McCarthy. Earlier in the day, McCarthy led the Waynesburg men to their first victory of the season, and his first win as a collegiate head coach.

 

The Jackets will look to keep the winning ways going on Thursday, Sept. 9, when they host Point Park.

Bruni went 3-0 during Waynesburg’s home quad-match against Penn State Greater Allegheny, Penn State Beaver and Penn State Fayette. The sophomore won two matches by major decision and scored a fall in just 31 seconds over Greater Allegheny’s Soham Salvi.
Jessi Drayer
Women's Basketball
Drayer poured in a team-high 21.0 points per game for the 1-1 Yellow Jackets this past week. She was the team’s leading scorer in both games, going for a game-high 23 points against Westminster, before pouring in a contest-best 19 points in a win over Geneva. The Waterford, Ohio native averaged 21 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game this week.
