LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 3) – The Waynesburg University volleyball team went 1-1 in day one action at the Saint Vincent Bearcat Challenge on Friday.

 

The Yellow Jackets (2-1) downed Pitt-Greensburg 3-0 in their first match of the event. It was the second time in the last three days that the Jackets swept through the Bobcats after beating UPG in their season-opening match on Wednesday. Waynesburg took the contest by the set scores of 25-16, 25-21, 25-12.

 

The Jackets tasted defeat for the first time this season in their late contest of the day when they fell 3-1 to Ursuline. The Arrows won the first two sets by the scores of 25-14 and 25-17 before Waynesburg responded with a 26-24 triumph in set three. Ursuline sealed up the win with a 25-19 victory in the fourth and deciding set.

 

The Yellow Jackets will try to get back on the winning track tomorrow, when they face off with Carlow at 9 a.m. They’ll wrap up their run at the event with a 1 p.m. match against Houghton.

Bruni went 3-0 during Waynesburg’s home quad-match against Penn State Greater Allegheny, Penn State Beaver and Penn State Fayette. The sophomore won two matches by major decision and scored a fall in just 31 seconds over Greater Allegheny’s Soham Salvi.
Jessi Drayer
Women's Basketball
Drayer poured in a team-high 21.0 points per game for the 1-1 Yellow Jackets this past week. She was the team’s leading scorer in both games, going for a game-high 23 points against Westminster, before pouring in a contest-best 19 points in a win over Geneva. The Waterford, Ohio native averaged 21 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game this week.
