Men's soccer wins thrilling 3-2 overtime contest at Hood

Freshman Danny Griebert heads in game-winning goal against Blazers

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md. (Sept. 18) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team refused to give up after falling behind 2-0 to Hood and bounced back to pick up a 3-2 victory over the Blazers on Saturday.

Hood (2-4) built up a 2-0 lead in the 51st minute of the contest and looked to be in good position to pick up the win. However, in the 64th minutes of play, freshman Tim Fields buried his third goal of the season off an assist from junior Erick Burke to make it 2-1 Hood. With less than two minutes to go in the game, Burke tied the score at 2-2 after taking a feed from freshman Simseth Saint-Hillien.

After neither team was able to tally the game-winning goal, the contest went into overtime where Waynesburg scored its third-straight point to clinch the win. Freshman Danny Griebert picked a great time to pick up his first collegiate goal after he headed in a pass from senior Ryan Hartz and ended the almost 98-minute game.

Senior Ryan Hunsberger got the start in goal for Waynesburg and picked up the win after making five saves in 97:38 of action. The Jackets out-shot their opponents by a 20 to 14 margin.

With their win over Hood, the Yellow Jacket men's soccer team has already matched last year's win total. Waynesburg returns to the field on Thursday, Sept. 23, with a road game at Lancaster Bible College.
