WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. (April 20) – The Waynesburg University golf team continued its run at the 2010 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Golf Championships on Tuesday at the Oak Tree Country Club in West Middlesex.

 

The Yellow Jacket men played their final 18 holes of the championship and ended up in fifth place out of seven schools competing. Junior Kyle Kyper had a solid day two to earn the top spot on the Yellow Jackets as an individual. After carding a 14-over 85 on day one, he bounced back with a six-over 77, which gave him a two-day total of 162, which tied him for 18th place out of 40 individuals.

 

Senior Ryan Work finished just behind Kyper after tying for 20th place with a 163 (81-82).

 

Washington & Jefferson fired the best round of the spring championships, which were held on Monday, April 19, and Tuesday, April 20. The Presidents’ four-man score of 602 was 10 strokes better than Thomas More’s 612. However, with Thomas More firing a 599 to W&J’s 625 in the 36-hole PAC Fall Invitational in September, the Saints took home the 2010 team championship with a four-round total of 1211. W&J placed second with a 1227.

 

Tuesday’s individual medalist honors went to W&J’s Ted Marron, who recorded a pair of 72’s for a two-day total of 144.

 

Also on Tuesday, the spring portion of the PAC Women’s Championship got underway. Senior Kristen Lucci, Waynesburg’s lone representative in the event, is in a tie for 14th place in the 22-woman field after carding a 107 following the first 18 holes.

Athletes of the Week
Jessi Drayer
Women's Basketball
Drayer poured in a team-high 21.0 points per game for the 1-1 Yellow Jackets this past week. She was the team’s leading scorer in both games, going for a game-high 23 points against Westminster, before pouring in a contest-best 19 points in a win over Geneva. The Waterford, Ohio native averaged 21 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game this week.
Dan Bruni
Wrestling
Bruni went 3-0 during Waynesburg’s home quad-match against Penn State Greater Allegheny, Penn State Beaver and Penn State Fayette. The sophomore won two matches by major decision and scored a fall in just 31 seconds over Greater Allegheny’s Soham Salvi.

The Waynesburg football team is 2-0 all-time against Penn State. The last time they met was in 1932, when the Jackets won 7-6.
