WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 20) – After big weeks on the diamond, juniors Amanda Baughman and Rob Cool Jr have been named the latest Waynesburg University Athletes of the Week.

Baughman continues to have a stellar third year with the Yellow Jackets as the team’s top hitter and pitcher. This past week, the Washington, Pa. native recorded a team-best .417 batting average (5-for-12), belted her team-leading fifth homerun of the season, drove in two runs and scored two more. She was even more impressive in the pitching circle. Baughman went 4-0 with a 2.89 ERA over 28 innings pitched and struck out 26 opposing hitters, while only walking seven.

Cool was tremendous at the plate for the Waynesburg baseball team, which went 2-1 this past weekend. The junior from Clinton, Pa. went 9-12 at the dish (.750 average) with three doubles, a team-high five RBI and four runs scored. He also stole a team-best two bases on two attempts. He didn’t commit an error on the week and picked up an outfield assist.

Both the softball and baseball teams are in the thick of their respective races to get into the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) postseason. The Jacket women are in third place in the PAC, while the men of the diamond are in fourth in their standings. The top four teams in each sport advance to the PAC Championship tournament.

This week will be a busy one for the softball team, as they are scheduled to play six games over three doubleheaders. Two of those dates are conference home twin bills with Westminster this afternoon and with the defending PAC champions from Thomas More on April 24. The baseball team, meanwhile, will play five non-conference games over three dates this week.
