Waynesburg track teams appear in regional ranking
Yellow Jackets wrap up indoor portion of season, preparing to head outdoors

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (March 4) – The Waynesburg University men’s and women’s track & field teams both showed up in the latest NCAA Division III dual meet regional rankings.

 

The Yellow Jacket women were ranked ninth in the Mideast Region, while the men picked up the 12th-place spot.

 

The Jackets recently wrapped up the indoor portion of their schedule and will get their outdoor schedule underway on March 27, when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit.

Athletes of the Week
Elaine Hasek
Women's Basketball
Hasek posted her first collegiate double-double by pouring in 19 points and 10 rebounds in Waynesburg’s 74-66 win over Saint Vincent, including 15 points on five-of-six shooting from three-point range. The first-year starter averaged 13.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game over a pair of PAC victories for the Jackets.
Garett Johnston
Wrestling
Johnston scored the only fall on the night of Waynesburg’s PAC rivalry match at Thiel this past week. However, his pin of Ryan Carson in 2:44 not only gave the Jackets six crucial points, but also provided the tie-breaking criteria that turned a 17-17 tie into an 18-17 victory. Johnston is 29-3 on the year with 13 wins by fall and he’ll ride an 18-match winning streak into Friday’s PAC Championships. He was also honored with his third PAC Wrestler of the Week award this season.

Champions in the classroom
During the 2009-10 school year, no school in the conference boasted more honorees on the PAC Academic Honor Roll than Waynesburg.
Headlee's All-American resume
Head wrestling coach Ron Headlee was a three-time NAIA All-American at Messiah College and the school's first NCAA All-American.
Jackets own Nittany Lions
The Waynesburg football team is 2-0 all-time against Penn State. The last time they met was in 1932, when the Jackets won 7-6.
TV Football
Waynesburg played in the first televised football game. The Yellow Jackets faced Fordham on Sept. 20, 1939 in Randalls Island, N.Y.
Unbreakable record
In 2009, Scott Cree ran an interception back 100 yards for a touchdown, a record that can't be broken.
The Three Musketeers
Dominick Hunter, Ivan Hawkins and Paul D'Imperio, who rank 1-2-3 in career receptions , all played together from 2002 to 2004.
Don Herrman
Former Waynesburg football great Don Herrman played for the New York Giants and New Orleans Saints from 1969 to 1977.
Going nowhere fast
Waynesburg held Westminster to minus-105 yards rushing in a game in 1967.
