WEXFORD, Pa. (March 18) – The Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) recently released its annual preseason baseball and softball coaches polls.

The Waynesburg baseball team was predicted to finish in fourth place. If that prediction proves true, the Yellow Jackets would qualify for the PAC postseason baseball tournament, which takes the top four teams in the conference. Last year, Waynesburg just missed out on the postseason after finishing in a tie for fourth with Grove City after going 9-9 in PAC play and 18-21 overall. GCC went to the postseason on a tie-breaker.

Defending conference champion was picked to finish first with seven of nine possible first-place votes. The other two first-place votes went to Thomas More, which was chosen to place second. Thiel rounded out the top three.

The Jacket softball team was picked to finish seventh out of eight teams in the PAC. Head coach Lou Giachetti will look to improve on last year's 14-16 overall record, which included a 5-9 mark in PAC play, which was good enough for a sixth-place finish at the end of the 2009 season.

The defending PAC champs from Thomas More were selected to repeat after garnering eight out of 10 first-place nods. Last year’s conference runners-up from Bethany picked up the other two first-place votes and were predicted to place second when the 2009-10 season comes to an end. Westminster College was chosen to round out the top three in third place.

After wrapping up their recent spring break trips, both the Waynesburg baseball and softball teams will be returning to action in the near future. The Jacket women of the diamond host Penn State Fayette, the Eberly Campus this Saturday, March 20, for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. The Waynesburg baseball team is scheduled to debut its new home field on Friday, March 26, when it hosts the Tomcats of Thiel.
