WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (March 9) – The Waynesburg University baseball team was swept in a doubleheader by Husson (Maine) University on Tuesday during the RussMatt Baseball 2010 Central Florida Invitational.

The Eagles took game one by the final score of 8-3 and held off a late Yellow Jacket comeback to pick up a 12-10 triumph in game two. The losses dropped the Jackets to 1-5 on the young season.

In the opener, junior Bill Hanning and sophomore Brendan Scioscia led Waynesburg by each going two-for-three at the plate with a double and a single. Senior rightly Patrick Logan took the loss on the mound after starting and working three innings. He gave up six runs, three of which were earned, on four hits and three walks. In the late game, the two teams battled back-and-forth in a tight contest before Husson put up five runs in the top of the seventh that turned a 7-6 lead into a 12-6 advantage. The Jackets mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh to cut the edge to just two runs. Unfortunately, the Eagles were able to pick up the final run of the game with two runners on and the game-winning run at the plate.

Junior Tim Knight suffered the loss on the mound in relief of junior Pat Ehrin, who went 2.2 innings, during which he gave up five runs on four hits and six walks. Knight allowed just two runs, one of which was earned, on one hit and three walks. He also hit three batters.

Five different Waynesburg players picked up at least two hits in game two. Senior Wes White Jr went two-for-three with a triple, two stolen bases and three runs scored.
