WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 20) – The Waynesburg University men’s basketball team ended their regular season with a 99-68 loss at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse to Geneva on Saturday.

 

Waynesburg fell to 2-21 on the year, while the Golden Tornadoes improved to 14-11.

 

Geneva jumped out to a 12-4 lead over the first five minutes of play and never looked back. They held a major advantage on the glass, out-rebounding their hosts by a 62-28 margin. The Tornadoes also out-did the Jackets from three-point range (11-of-28 to 3-of-23), and dished out 21 assists to Waynesburg’s six.

 

The Yellow Jackets were led by junior guard Steven Iser, who recorded a team-high 14 points. Senior guard Ryan Courneen, who was playing in his final game at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse, added 11.

 

Geneva was paced by junior forward Rich Colick’s game-high 32 points and 13 rebounds. The visitors got a second double-double effort from sophomore forward Lambros Svingos (18 points, 12 rebounds).

 

The Jackets return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 23, for the first round of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship tournament. They will travel to Crestview Hills, Ky., to face the defending conference champs from Thomas More. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.

Bruni went 3-0 during Waynesburg’s home quad-match against Penn State Greater Allegheny, Penn State Beaver and Penn State Fayette. The sophomore won two matches by major decision and scored a fall in just 31 seconds over Greater Allegheny’s Soham Salvi.
Jessi Drayer
Women's Basketball
Drayer poured in a team-high 21.0 points per game for the 1-1 Yellow Jackets this past week. She was the team’s leading scorer in both games, going for a game-high 23 points against Westminster, before pouring in a contest-best 19 points in a win over Geneva. The Waterford, Ohio native averaged 21 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game this week.
