Waynesburg women tangle with Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. (Feb. 13) – The Waynesburg University women’s basketball team suffered an 83-61 loss at the hands of Saint Vincent on Saturday night in Latrobe.

 

The win gives the Bearcats a two-game season sweep of the Yellow Jackets and a 17-5 overall record. Waynesburg slips to 8-15 on the year.

 

The Yellow Jackets played well through the first 20 minutes of action and trailed by just four points (35-31) at halftime. However, Saint Vincent went on an 11-0 run over the first 3:38 of the second period to take control of the contest with a 46-31 lead.

 

The Jackets were led by sophomore point guard Hannah Hunter, who poured in a team-high 11 points. Freshman forward Brittany Spencer pulled down a Waynesburg-best six rebounds in the loss and added eight points to her night.

 

Maria Baroffio led a trio of Saint Vincent players who reached double digits with a game-high 22 points. Brittany Sedlock contributed a double-double performance with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Bearcats held a big advantage on the glass, out-rebounding the Jackets 47-32.

 

Things don’t get any easier for Waynesburg when they return to the court, as they have to travel to Washington & Jefferson to face the nationally ranked Presidents.

Bruni went 3-0 during Waynesburg’s home quad-match against Penn State Greater Allegheny, Penn State Beaver and Penn State Fayette. The sophomore won two matches by major decision and scored a fall in just 31 seconds over Greater Allegheny’s Soham Salvi.
Jessi Drayer
Women's Basketball
Drayer poured in a team-high 21.0 points per game for the 1-1 Yellow Jackets this past week. She was the team’s leading scorer in both games, going for a game-high 23 points against Westminster, before pouring in a contest-best 19 points in a win over Geneva. The Waterford, Ohio native averaged 21 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game this week.
