Calcagni and Krause recognized as outstanding student-athletes

Defensive linemen honored by CoSIDA as Academic All-Region selections

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov.4) – A pair of Waynesburg University defensive linemen were recently honored for their excellence on the field and in the classroom.

Senior Anthony Calcagni and sophomore Matt Krause were both lauded as members of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2 College Division Football Teams, which are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Calcagni, who carries a cumulative 3.40 GPA as a business management major, has started all eight games this year at anchor. He is seventh on the team in total tackles (28), has recorded 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and a forced fumble. He's also been credited with breaking up two passes.

Krause, who carries a cumulative 3.35 GPA as a nursing major, has started all eight games this year at defensive tackle. He is fifth on the team in total tackles (37), has recorded three tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and an interception in just his second season with the team.

To qualify for the academic all-district honors, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative 3.30 GPA or higher and must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's events and must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.
