Waynesburg men lose foul-filled game with Thomas More

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 9) – The Waynesburg and Thomas More men’s basketball teams took part in a wild Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown on Saturday that featured a combined 52 personal fouls and 59 free throw attempts.

 

When all was said and done, the visiting Saints picked up a 93-67 victory and moved to 10-4 on the year and 3-1 in PAC play. The loss dropped the Yellow Jackets to 1-11 on the seasons and 0-5 in conference action.

 

For the majority of the first 20 minutes, Waynesburg was able to keep the game close. With 3:41 to go until halftime, the Jackets trailed the Saints by just six points (40-34). However, the Saints went on a 9-2 run to finish off the first period and take a 49-36 advantage into the locker room.

 

After the second half got underway, Thomas More went on an 11-2 run to take a 60-38 lead and put the game away.

 

Waynesburg junior guard Steven Iser picked up a game-high 15 points in the loss to lead the home team. Reserve guard Larry Alexander chipped in nine points. Thomas More implemented a balanced scoring attack that featured five players with at least eight points on the afternoon. Reserve guard Daniel Whelan paced the Saint offense with 12 points.

 

The Jackets return to the court on Wednesday, Jan. 13, when they host Saint Vincent for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

Bruni went 3-0 during Waynesburg’s home quad-match against Penn State Greater Allegheny, Penn State Beaver and Penn State Fayette. The sophomore won two matches by major decision and scored a fall in just 31 seconds over Greater Allegheny’s Soham Salvi.
Jessi Drayer
Women's Basketball
Drayer poured in a team-high 21.0 points per game for the 1-1 Yellow Jackets this past week. She was the team’s leading scorer in both games, going for a game-high 23 points against Westminster, before pouring in a contest-best 19 points in a win over Geneva. The Waterford, Ohio native averaged 21 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game this week.
