GREENVILLE, Pa. (Jan. 7) – The Waynesburg men’s basketball team fell into a deep first half hole that they couldn’t dig out of against Thiel on Thursday evening. After racing out to a 52-26 halftime advantage, the Tomcats went on to earn an 82-68 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) win over the Yellow Jackets.

 

Waynesburg is now 1-10 on the season and 0-4 in PAC play. Thiel improved to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in conference action.

 

The home team didn’t take long to establish control of the contest, as they raced out to a 16-0 lead over the first 5:40 of the game. From there, the Tomcats were able to build leads as high as 31 points before halftime. Late in the contest, the Jackets were able to score the last 11 points of the night to make the final score more respectable.

 

Waynesburg was led by freshman point guard Ben Altmeyer, who recorded team highs in points (10) and rebounds (6). The Tomcats got 19 points each from Blair Rozenblad and Devon Adams in the win.

 

Waynesburg returns to action on Saturday, when they host Thomas More. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Bruni went 3-0 during Waynesburg’s home quad-match against Penn State Greater Allegheny, Penn State Beaver and Penn State Fayette. The sophomore won two matches by major decision and scored a fall in just 31 seconds over Greater Allegheny’s Soham Salvi.
Jessi Drayer
Women's Basketball
Drayer poured in a team-high 21.0 points per game for the 1-1 Yellow Jackets this past week. She was the team’s leading scorer in both games, going for a game-high 23 points against Westminster, before pouring in a contest-best 19 points in a win over Geneva. The Waterford, Ohio native averaged 21 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game this week.
