WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 26) – A pair of hoopsters have been named the latest Waynesburg Athletes of the Week. Congratulations to juniors Jeff Young and Elisha Jones on the honor.

Jones was not only a consistent scorer and rebounder for the Yellow Jacket women, she also showcased a flair for the dramatic. Her lay-up with 17 seconds to go in Saturday’s game against Chatham, along with a subsequent free throw, gave Waynesburg a 65-62 win over the Cougars.

However, the all-conference forward also led the team in scoring over two games this past week with 13.5 points per game, and tied for the team lead in rebounding over that same stretch with 6.5 boards per contest. Jones’ 12.3 points per game average leads the team, while her 5.3 rebounds per contest rank third.

In just his second game of the season with the Waynesburg men’s team, Young went off for a game-high 18 points against Geneva back on Jan. 20. His eight rebounds were also a game high.

Since making his season debut with the team on Jan. 16, Young leads the team in points (13.0) and rebounds (7.5) per game, all while coming off of the bench.

Both the Jacket men and women return to the hardwood on Wednesday, Jan. 27, when they travel to Bethany for a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader.
