BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Jan. 20) – The Waynesburg University women’s basketball team traveled to Geneva College on Wednesday night and suffered a 75-55 loss at the hands of the Golden Tornadoes. The loss dropped the Yellow Jackets 5-11 on the season, while Geneva improved to 6-10.

Senior guard Kristen Lucci opened the scoring with a lay-up that gave Waynesburg a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, Geneva went on a 6-0 run to open up a four-point lead and never trailed for the rest of the game. When the first half came to a close, the Tornadoes held a 30-21 lead and they never looked back until the game came to a close.

Both teams boasted a trio of double-digit scorers. Waynesburg was led by senior guard Johnna Deco who poured in a team-high 15 points. Sophomore Morgan Hoone came off the bench to add 13 points to the Yellow Jackets’ efforts, and junior forward Elisha Jones chipped in 11.

Geneva was led by Alyse Scarsella, who racked up a game-high 18 points and ripped down a contest-best 16 rebounds. The Golden Tornadoes were helped out by strong performances at the free throw line (25-of-35) and on the glass (46 rebounds to 37).

The Jackets will try to get back on the winning track on Saturday, when they host Chatham in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup.
