WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 19) – Congratulations go out to the latest pair of Waynesburg University Athletes of the Week, freshman women’s basketball player Brittany Spencer and junior wrestler Nick Garber.

Spencer picked up the award after putting forth solid efforts in scoring and rebounding. The Baltimore native tied for the team high in rebounds per game over two games last week with eight per contest. She also averaged 9.5 points per game, which was the second-highest average on the team.

Garber picks up the award after going a perfect 4-0 on the mats last week. After beating Mike Tancredi of McDaniel in a dual match to open the week, the nationally-ranked standout dominated the field at the Washington & Lee Invitational en route to his third individual title in as many years. He pinned all three of opponents in the first period and was named Outstanding Wrestler of the event.

The Waynesburg native was also named PAC Wrestler of the Week for the third time this year.

Both Spencer and Garber, along with their respective teammates, will be busy this week. On Wednesday, the Yellow Jacket women will travel to Geneva to face the Golden Tornadoes. On Friday, the mat men will square off with Washington & Jefferson in a road PAC match. Saturday, both individuals will return home as the Jacket women host conference rival Chatham and the wrestlers will host Penn State Dubois for senior night.
