WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 16) – The Waynesburg men’s basketball team battled hard for 40 minutes in their Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) game on Saturday night against Washington & Jefferson.

The Yellow Jackets played right with W&J the entire game, but couldn’t hold a late lead as they fell by the final of 54-50. The Jackets are now 2-12 on the season and 0-6 in PAC play, while the Presidents improved to 8-8 overall and 4-1 in conference action.

After falling behind 25-24 at the conclusion of the first half, the Jackets rebounded and built leads as large as six points over the Presidents. Unfortunately, the visitors were able to string together the final six points of the night to erase a 50-48 deficit and take the win.

A big reason for the victory was a huge discrepancy at the free throw line in favor of W&J. The Presidents connected on 22-of-28 tries from charity stripe, while Waynesburg hit just three-of-seven foul shots. Waynesburg was the better team from the field as they made 20-of-59 attempts (34 percent), as compared to W&J’s 29 percent performance (14-of-48).

The Jackets were led by junior guard Erik Noone, who just missed out on a double-double by recording a nine-point, 10-rebound performance. Reserve guard Brian Felker paced the Presidents with a game-high 12 points.

Waynesburg will look to bounce back from the sour loss on Jan. 20, when they travel to Geneva to face the Golden Tornadoes.
