WESTMINSTER, Md. (Jan. 13) – Despite missing three starters for various reasons ranging from illness, to injury, to class responsibilities, the Waynesburg University wrestling team was able to put up a good fight against the Green Terror of McDaniel on Wednesday night.

Unfortunately, the short-handed Yellow Jackets couldn’t hold a late lead and fell by the final of 17-15. The loss dropped Waynesburg to 4-7 on the season.

The difference in the match proved to be major decision wins for McDaniel at 184 and 285 pounds. Waynesburg was unable to pick up any bonus points on the night.

Alex Crown (125), Nick Garber (141), Jon Sanko (157) and Jared Roberts (165) all earned decision wins, as did freshman Cody Catalina (197), who joined the team just a few days ago.

Despite missing almost a third of their starting lineup, Waynesburg still led 15-13 going into the heavyweight bout, but nationally ranked 285-pounder Brock Glotfelty picked up the deciding major decision.

Waynesburg returns to the mats on Saturday, Jan. 16, when it travels to Virginia to defend its team title at the Washington & Lee Invitational.
