Waynesburg women drop one to Saint Vincent
Big halftime deficit too much for Jackets to overcome in 72-52 loss

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 13) - The Waynesburg women's basketball team dropped a 72-52 contest to visiting Saint Vincent on Wednesday night. The Bearcats  (11-3) raced out to a 42-23 halftime lead over the Yellow Jackets (5-9) and played their opponents evenly in the second half to pick up the win.

 

The victorious 'Cats were led by a trio of players who put up at least 15 points a-piece. Sophomore Emily Fenton led the group with 18 points, while freshman Melissa Mansur added 16 and sophomore Brittany Sedlock chipped in 15. Junior Maria Baroffio also reached double digits for Saint Vincent with 11 points. Sedlock had a double-double night with 11 rebounds.

 

Waynesburg was led by freshman forward Brittany Spencer, who tallied team highs in both points (10) and rebounds (8). Junior forward Elisha Jones added nine points and seven rebounds to the night.

Baughman drilled a three-run double in the third inning of Waynesburg's 4-2 win over Trine to break up a scoreless tie and give the Jackets a 3-0 lead. When she was in the field, the native of Washington, Pa. allowed just two hits and a walk, while picking up a pair of strikeouts. She didn’t allow a hit through the first three innings of the seven-inning affair. She was also named PAC Pitcher and Hitter of the Week.
Nick Garber
Wrestling
Garber beat some of the best Division III wrestlers in the country on his way to finishing seventh at this year’s Division III National Wrestling Championships this past weekend in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After losing his opening match, Garber bounced back by beating Paul Marcello of Johns Hopkins 8-7 and picking up a dominating 13-6 upset win over fourth-seeded Sean White of Augsburg. The Waynesburg native then secured seventh place by beating Corey Brown of Thiel 13-6. He also became the school's first wrestling All-American since 2001.
