Men's cross country competes at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 26) – The Waynesburg University men’s cross country team posted a 10th-place finish out of the 13 teams competing at this past Saturday’s Saint Vincent College Invitational.

 

The Yellow Jackets were led by junior Adam Swingle, who recorded a team-best 64th-place finish after crossing the finish line in 29:35. Saturday’s field was composed of 130 individual runners.

 

Juniors Bill Moder and Ben Fortna rounded out the team’s top three performers. Moder placed 69th with a time of 29:43, while Fortna added a 70th-place performance after completing the race in 29:48.  

 

Grove City’s Garett Cichowitz was the top overall individual performer after winning the race with a time of 26:03. The host Bearcats won the overall team title.

Waynesburg returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 3, when they travel to the Westmoreland County Fairgrounds for Pitt-Greensburg’s home invitational.

Jessi Drayer
Women's Basketball
Drayer poured in a team-high 21.0 points per game for the 1-1 Yellow Jackets this past week. She was the team’s leading scorer in both games, going for a game-high 23 points against Westminster, before pouring in a contest-best 19 points in a win over Geneva. The Waterford, Ohio native averaged 21 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game this week.

Wrestling
Bruni went 3-0 during Waynesburg’s home quad-match against Penn State Greater Allegheny, Penn State Beaver and Penn State Fayette. The sophomore won two matches by major decision and scored a fall in just 31 seconds over Greater Allegheny’s Soham Salvi.

Waynesburg played in the first televised football game. The Yellow Jackets faced Fordham on Sept. 20, 1939 in Randalls Island, N.Y.
Jackets own Nittany Lions
The Waynesburg football team is 2-0 all-time against Penn State. The last time they met was in 1932, when the Jackets won 7-6.
