Cree named first-team All-American

Electrifying senior returner named one of the nation's best by D3Football.com

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (July 28) – Senior defensive back/return specialist Scott Cree earned maybe his most prestigious honor in an ever growing list of accolades this Tuesday.

The Waynesburg native was honored as a first-team All-American pick by D3Football.com at returner, making him the first Yellow Jacket to receive the first-team preseason honor from the highly respected website.

Cree was also named a 2009 second-team preseason All-American by Consensus Draft Services (CDS) and a third-team All-American by D3Football.com following the 2008 campaign.

He was also a first-team All-PAC pick as a returner and a second-team ECAC All-South Region pick at the same position.

As the team's primary return man, Cree averaged 12.4 yards per punt return and 25.8 yards per kick return. However, it was Cree's propensity for the big play that earned him notoriety. The speedster ran two punts back for touchdowns, including an 88-yard sprint to pay dirt against Thomas More. He added three kickoff returns for touchdowns, including a 97-yard jaunt against Westminster on Homecoming.

However, Cree was far from one-dimensional. He also served as the team's top cornerback, registering 30 tackles, 27 of which were solo stops, and picking off a team-high five passes. Included in that handful of plays was a 41-yard interception return for a touchdown against Westminster.

Cree was the only player from the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) to be named a first-team preseason All-American by the website. For a complete look at the 2009 D3Football.com Preseason All-American team, click here.

Cree and the rest of his teammates kick off the 2009 season on Sept. 5 when they travel to the state of Ohio to battle the College of Wooster.
