Distance running standout Megan Grover was named a first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country District 2 College Division teams.

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (June 5) – Recent Waynesburg graduate Megan Grover was honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for her outstanding work on the cross country course, the track and in the class room.

As a senior, Grover led both the 2008 Yellow Jacket women’s cross country team and the distance runners on the 2009 women’s track and field teams, while also excelling in the class room. For her efforts, the Colorado native was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country District 2 College Division teams as a first team selection.

This is the second time that Grover, a biology/pre-dental major, has been honored by CoSIDA as a first-team pick. As a member of the first team, Grover will move on to balloting for All-American status.

This past spring, Grover capped her collegiate track and field career by shattering the school record in the 10,000-meter run by almost 3:30. She also leaves Waynesburg with the top marks in the 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs.

The Faith Christian School graduate took home a pair of Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) titles in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter races at this spring’s championships. She also qualified for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships in both events.

As good as she was in the spring, Grover may have been even better in the fall as the leader of the women’s cross country team.

Along with being a first-team All-PAC honoree following a third-place finish at the 2008 conference championships, Grover also set a new school record with a 12th place finish at the NCAA Division III Mideast Championship meet, which was held at Waynesburg.

On her way to the postseason, Grover also won four consecutive PAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week awards, took two individual meet titles and finished in the top ten of every meet she competed in as a senior.

To be eligible for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams, a student-athlete must at least be a sophomore at their present institution, be a starter or key reserve and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or greater.
