WAYNESBURG, Pa. (May 4) – One of the biggest jobs of a leadoff hitter is to reach base so the run producers down the line can bring you home. This year, second baseman Wes White Jr has proven to be one of the best in the nation at that job.

After Sunday’s season finale at Washington & Jefferson, White ended his junior season tied for fourth place in all divisions of the NCAA in runs scored. The Pittsburgh native scored 1.64 runs per game in 2009, putting him just one one-hundredth of a run per game behind second place (1.65).

The electric Jacket leadoff man also tied for 17th in Division III in total runs scored (54). He also led the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) in both categories. White ended the season with a PAC-best five triples and 28 walks, while slugging a career-best three homeruns.
