MARIETTA, Ohio (May 21) – Waynesburg sophomore thrower Elisha Jones put up a throw of 40.53 meters (132 feet, 11 inches) at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships on Thursday, the first day of competition.

The throw, which came in flight two of round one, was not good enough for Jones to advance to the finals and was the 11th best throw of the opening round.

Lisa Brown, a senior from Gustavus Adolphus, stole the show in the event by twice breaking the Don Drumm Stadium Record. Her round one toss sailed 47.95 meters (157 feet, three inches). Her winning throw in the finals traveled 48.16 meters (158 feet).

Jones’ trip to the NCAA Championships ends a memorable year for the Yellow Jacket women’s track program, which included the first meet victory since its rebirth at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference South Quad Meet and head coach Jason Falvo being named PAC Women’s Coach of the Year.

Athletes of the Week
Amanda Baughman
Softball
Baughman drilled a three-run double in the third inning of Waynesburg's 4-2 win over Trine to break up a scoreless tie and give the Jackets a 3-0 lead. When she was in the field, the native of Washington, Pa. allowed just two hits and a walk, while picking up a pair of strikeouts. She didn’t allow a hit through the first three innings of the seven-inning affair. She was also named PAC Pitcher and Hitter of the Week.
Nick Garber
Wrestling
Garber beat some of the best Division III wrestlers in the country on his way to finishing seventh at this year’s Division III National Wrestling Championships this past weekend in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After losing his opening match, Garber bounced back by beating Paul Marcello of Johns Hopkins 8-7 and picking up a dominating 13-6 upset win over fourth-seeded Sean White of Augsburg. The Waynesburg native then secured seventh place by beating Corey Brown of Thiel 13-6. He also became the school's first wrestling All-American since 2001.
