WAYNESBURG, Pa. (May 21) – A pair of senior Waynesburg women’s lacrosse players were recently honored for their work both on the playing field and in the classroom by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Amanda Jo Morgan and Steph Strauser were both named members of the ESPN The Magazine Academic At-Large All-District District 2 College Division teams, which are presented by CoSIDA.
While this is Morgan’s first at-large award from ESPN The Magazine, which recognized students in various winter and springs sports, she is a two-time winner for volleyball, receiving the honor this past fall and in 2007.
As a first-team selection in 2009, Morgan is also a candidate for Academic All-American status. The first-year goalkeeper for the lacrosse team graduated with a 4.0 GPA in management and was also one of the top middle hitters during the PAC’s volleyball season.
Strauser is also a multiple-time CoSIDA All-District award winner. While she was a second-team pick this spring, she was a first-team selection in 2008. Like Morgan, Strauser, who is a two-year member of the women’s lacrosse team, sported a 4.0 GPA, but in psychology.
To qualify for the academic all-district honors, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative 3.30 GPA or higher and must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games and must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.
Both women also hold the distinction of being the 2009 Waynesburg University valedictorian, an honor they shared with a third student.
