WAYNESBURG, Pa. (May 18) – For the second-straight season, sophomore Elisha Jones will represent Waynesburg University at the NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The second-year standout will compete in the javelin at Marietta College from May 21-23. Last year, Jones placed seventh at the event with a then-school record throw of 42.22 meters (138.52 feet) to become the first outdoor All-American in program history.

The Russell, Pa. native stamped her ticket to this year’s championships at the Presidents’ Athletics Conference (PAC) Championships, which were held on Apr. 25. At the event, Jones launched the javelin 42.29 meters (138.75 feet), which broke both the school and meet records.

Jones nearly had some company make the trip with her to Ohio, as four other Yellow Jacket women were included on the NCAA list, which put them in the running to the make the championships.

Freshmen Marybeth Rocco (javelin) and Krystal Baker (triple jump), and seniors Megan Grover (10,000-meter run) and Ashley Dodd (pole vault) put up solid efforts all year, but just missed out on qualifying for the national finals, some by mere centimeters.

As of Monday, May 18, Jones’s qualifying throw at the PAC Championships is the 10th best in Division III this season. To follow her progress at Marietta, click here after the national championships get underway.
