WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Apr. 28) – The Waynesburg baseball team was swept in a non-Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader by visiting Penn State-Altoona on Tuesday.

The Lions picked up a 14-10 win in the opener, and followed that with a come-from-behind 11-9 victory in game two. The losses dropped the Jackets to 17-19 on the season.

In game one, PSA jumped out to an 11-0 lead after the top of the fifth. Waynesburg rallied to out-score their opponents 7-0 over the next two innings and trailed just 11-7 going into the seventh.

Unfortunately, the Lions picked up three runs in the top of the final frame, before the Jackets did the same to bring about the final score.

Though they came in losing efforts, the home team got a pair of four-hit performances from freshman outfielder Chris Dittmar and junior second baseman Wes White Jr. Dittmar was a perfect four-for-four at the dish with two runs scored.

White enjoyed a four-for-five showing that included a homerun, a double, four RBI and two runs scored.

Waynesburg starter Bryan Leones took the loss after working three innings and giving seven runs on 10 hits.

In game two, the Lions jumped out to a 5-0 lead before recording an out in the first inning. However, the Jackets rallied back with a run in the bottom of the first and a five-spot in the third to take a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the third.

Unfortunately, Altoona added six runs to their scoring total in the top of the fifth to take an 11-6 lead. Waynesburg was able to respond with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the comeback came up just short of a victory.

Centerfielder Rob Cool Jr and shortstop Anthony Defilippo each went two-for-four at the plate with two RBI to pace the Jacket offense in the second contest of the day. Pat Ehrin took the loss after giving up four runs, two of which were earned, in relief.

Waynesburg returns to action on Friday when they host PAC rival Washington & Jefferson in a key nine-inning conference showdown. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
