WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Apr. 27) – It was a long hot day at Madison Field for the Waynesburg baseball team on Monday afternoon as they dropped a 24-5 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) contest to Grove City.

The loss dropped Waynesburg to 17-17 overall and 8-7 in the PAC. Grove City improved to 6-9 in conference action and 13-17 overall.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, before the Jackets responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. GCC made it 5-2 in the top of the second, and extended their advantage to 8-3 after following four innings of play.

Grove City blew the game open with 10 runs in the top of the fifth, giving them an 18-3 advantage and allowing them to cruise to victory.

One of the few bright spots for the Jackets was second baseman Wes White Jr, who recorded a game-high four hits in five at-bats. He also scored Waynesburg’s first run of the afternoon.

Sophomore starter Tim Knight started and took the loss on the mound after giving up five earned runs in just one inning of action.
