PITTSBURGH
, Pa.
(Apr. 16) – The Waynesburg University softball team picked up a sweep of Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Chatham University on Thursday.

The day turned out to be a memorable one for the Minor sisters. In game one, senior pitcher Autumn Minor threw her first career perfect game as the Yellow Jackets downed the Cougars 1-0. In game two, her younger sister, freshman Lauren Minor, picked up her first collegiate win in the circle by the score of 3-2.

The victories got the Jackets back to .500 on the season (12-12) and improved their conference mark to 4-6. Chatham fell to 1-3 in the PAC and 4-24 overall.

In the opener, the elder Minor dueled with her pitching counterpart, Katie Lloyd, through six shutout innings. The Waynesburg offense finally broke up the scoreless tie when shortstop Kristen Lautenschlager singled in pinch-runner Sarah Burrie.

While Lautenschlager ultimately clinched the win for Waynesburg, Minor pitched lights-out. Included in her 21 outs were 10 strikeouts, including five in a row over the fifth and sixth innings. Her season record improved to 6-6 and her ERA dropped to 2.12.

In game two, the Jackets fell behind 2-0 after three innings, despite giving up just one hit. However, the Waynesburg offense finally woke up in the bottom of the fifth and they got some help from the Chatham defense.

The Jackets combined doubles from first baseman Elysia Orison and centerfielder Nicole Forte with a pair of Cougar errors to get three runs across the plate, giving them a 3-2 lead. Forte and leftfielder Lea Salerno drove in a run each in the frame.

The game went right down to the wire as Chatham put runners on first and third with two outs on the board. However, Autumn Minor, who came in to record the save, struck Lloyd out looking to seal the victory.

Waynesburg will try to keep their winning ways going on Saturday, Apr. 18, when they host Washington and Jefferson. First pitch of the double-header is expected to be thrown at 1 p.m.
