WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Feb. 5)– The visiting team from Mercyhurst spoiled the Waynesburg wrestling team's senior night festivities as they rolled to a 33-7 win over the Yellow Jackets.
The ends the Jackets' dual match portion of their season with a 10-4 record. The victory boosts the Lakers, who are ranked 11th in Division II, to 13-5-1.
Sophomore 141-pounder Pat McCabe earned Waynesburg's first win of the night with a 12-6 victory over Lance Pitcel. Unfortunately, the Jackets wouldn't enjoy another victory until first-year 197-pounder Corbin Semple picked up his 13th-straight win of the year with a 10-1 major decision victory over Matt Mix.
The Jackets return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Berea, Ohio, to take part in the John Summa Memorial Tournament. The event is hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College.
One of the six teams the Jackets will run into is Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Thiel. The two squads will see each other again on Feb. 14, when they join Washington and Jefferson for the PAC championships at W&J.
