CLARION, Pa. (Dec. 30) – The Waynesburg men’s basketball team simply couldn’t contain Clarion, a Division II team with a 7-2 record, on Wednesday, and the Yellow Jackets fell 81-53.

The loss dropped the Jackets to 1-8 on the season.

After Waynesburg got out to a 6-5 lead early in the contest, Clarion went on a 16-2 run that put the home team ahead 21-8 with 8:40 to go in the first half. From there, the Golden Eagles maintained a double-digit lead and found themselves ahead 38-20 at halftime.

Things didn’t get any easier for the Yellow Jackets in the second half, as Clarion won the second period 43-33 and went on to the 28-point win.

Junior guard Steven Iser and reserve sophomore forward Lou Galante put up a team-high 10 points each in the loss. Galante was also one of three Waynesburg players to pull down six rebounds. Sophomore forward James Allenby was solid underneath on defense, as he tied for the game high with four blocks.

Five different Eagles reached double digits in scoring, including the trio of Lloyd Harrison, Brandyn Mungo and Jamar Harrison, who tied for the game high with 13 points each.

Waynesburg will need to rebound from the loss quickly, as they return to Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Jan. 5 for a home contest with Westminster. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
