WAYNESBURG, PA (Dec. 17) – The Waynesburg University Men’s Volleyball program announced junior, outside hitter, Jake Reynolds and sophomore, middle, Joel Wingard as the 2010 season Captains.  Reynolds and Wingard will serve as the fifth and sixth captains in program history.

Selecting both captains was the task of the coaching staff.  Each of the newly appointed leaders served in temporary roles as pre-season captains with an understanding that they were to earn the right to wear the C on the court for the 2010 season beginning in January.  With this in mind, both hopefuls picked up additional duties both organizationally and on the court.  “I am very selective and very cautious about this decision.”  Stated head coach, James Patterson.  “I have seen and experienced programs that have run aground mid season due to a real lack of leadership and It is our stead fast opinion that Joel [Wingard] and Jake [Reynolds] exemplify what it is to be a true student-athlete in this program, real, driven, committed leaders.”

Reynolds and Wingard combined for 14 kills in their last match of the preseason.  Jake Reynolds added additional numbers with 9 digs, 3 of which came at pivotal moments and set points.  Throughout the season Reynolds has ranked in the top three in kills on the team while Wingard stands as one of the teams best blockers.

Both players will assume their positions upon returning to campus January 11th as the team prepares for an exciting 2010 season.  Camp will begin Monday, January 11th and run through Saturday, January 16th with practices in the morning and the afternoon.  A 2010 season schedule will be released soon.
