CENTERVILLE, Mass. (Dec. 16) – Three Waynesburg University football players were recently honored as 2009 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Southwest Football All-Stars.
Senior offensive lineman Jared Bussard, freshman kicker Jon Storck and senior return specialist/defensive back Scott Cree were each bestowed the honor.
Bussard picked up the award after spending four years as a starter for the Yellow Jackets and three years as an All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) selection. He was a second-team pick as a sophomore and a junior, and was lauded as a first-teamer this past season.
Storck certainly answered Waynesburg’s preseason kicker concerns after leading the PAC in field goals made per game (0.70), scoring per game for kickers (6.3 points) and total scoring for kickers (63). He connected on seven-of-eight field goal attempts and 42-of-43 PAT attempts. His long made field goal of the year was from 48 yards out.
He finished seventh amongst all PAC players in scoring.
Cree, an All-American coming into the season, saw his numbers dip somewhat in 2009, as teams consistently kicked away from the Waynesburg native. However, he still managed to record his fourth collegiate kick return for a touchdown, when he took a ball back 81 yards against Geneva.
As a starting safety, Cree returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown against Hanover, which set a school record.
Wesley, a Division III national semifinalist, boasted 10 selections to the team, which was the most of any school. Wesley quarterback Shane McSweeny was named Division III Southwest Player of the Year, while freshman defensive back Chris Rountree of Ursinus was named Rookie of the Year.
Waynesburg tied for the third most selections to the team with Division III quarterfinalist Johns Hopkins. For a complete look at this year’s all-stars, click here (.pdf).
