WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 5) – A trio of senior Waynesburg football players were recently lauded for their outstanding efforts in the classroom, and two of them are now eligible for Academic All-American status.

Offensive lineman Todd Shulsky and safety Dylan August were listed among those honored on the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2 College Division First Team. Both Shulsky and August were second-team honorees last year.

Shulsky, who has started all eight games this year at left guard, continues to carry a 4.00 GPA as a finance major. He plans on graduating early and earning an MBA.

August, who has started seven-of-eight games this year, boasts a 3.77 GPA as an English/secondary education major. Earlier this year, he was honored as a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Defensive Player of the Week. He also ranks second on the team in total tackles with 57, has picked off an interception, recorded 3.5 tackles for loss and broken up three passes.

The third senior honoree was wide receiver Josh Fisher, who was lauded as a second-team selection. The biblical and ministry studies major carries a 3.53 GPA and has also become a top target for Jacket quarterbacks.

He is second on the team with 28 catches for 462 yards and leads the team in touchdown grabs with six.

As previously mentioned, Shulsky and August now go on the ballot for Academic All-American status. The all-district and All-American teams are both voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
