WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 4) – Defense is the overriding theme for this week’s Waynesburg Athlete of the Weeks, as both did their best to keep respective opponents from racking up points.

While junior libero Rachell Storm put forth another outstanding week of keeping volleyballs from dropping on the Yellow Jackets’ side of the court, junior linebacker Troy Cree did everything in his power to drop as many Grove City Wolverines to the turf as he could.

For their efforts, Storm and Cree snatch this week’s awards.

As she has done for three seasons at Waynesburg, Storm proved once again to be one of the best liberos in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC). Over three matches during the week of Oct. 25-31, she piled up 70 digs over three matches, and averaged 7.78 digs per set.

Her week included a 22-dig performance at home in Waynesburg’s season-ending 3-0 win over Chatham, 26 digs at Geneva and 24 digs at Saint Vincent. She currently leads the PAC in digs per set (6.80).

During the Yellow Jackets’ Halloween day clash at Grove City, Cree was a true monster.

His 16 total tackles set a new team single-game high for the season and were also the most by any player this past Saturday. He also set game highs in solo tackles (9) and assisted tackles (7).

He topped off his performance by recovering a fumble and recording 0.5 tackles for loss by assisting on a quarterback sack.

Cree’s performance also earned him PAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Congratulations to both athletes on their respective performances.
