WEXFORD, Pa. (Nov. 16) – A quartet of first-team honorees led Waynesburg on the 2009 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) All-Conference Football team.
All told, 12 Yellow Jackets were honored as all-conference players. Senior offensive lineman Jared Bussard , a four-year starter and two-time second-team All-PAC pick, earned first-team status this year.
On the defensive side, senior safety #Dylan August# earned his first first-team nod after finishing second on the team in total tackles with 67. August was a second-team selection in 2008.
Waynesburg also boasted two of the three first-team special teams honorees.
Freshman kicker Jon Storck, who led all PAC kickers with 63 points on seven field goals and 42 extra points, was named the conference’s top kicker. Senior defensive back and return specialist Scott Cree was named top returner in the conference for a second-straight season.
After returning a combined five kicks and punts for scores in 2008, the All-American averaged 19.1 yards per kick return and took a kickoff back for a touchdown against Geneva.
Waynesburg also boasted a pair of second-team All-PAC defenders in sophomore defensive lineman Darryl Moore, Jr. and junior linebacker Troy Cree.
Moore finished fifth on the team with 44 tackles and second on the team in both tackles for loss (8.0) and sacks (3.0).
After transferring to Waynesburg before the start of the year, Cree established himself as the team’s most explosive defender. He piled up a team-high 92 tackles that ranked second in the PAC, and a conference-best 66 solo stops, despite playing in just nine games. He also led the team in sacks (3.5) and tackles for loss (9.0).
A total of seven Yellow Jackets received honorable mention laurels from the conference.
Offensive linemen Corey Dieterle and Nick Hanley; wide receivers Josh Fisher and Ray Hightower II, quarterback Brad Dawson and punter Nate Feniello, along with Scott Cree, who picked up the award as a defensive back, were lauded.
PAC champions Thomas More led all teams in first-team selections (eight), second-team selections (seven) and total honorees (21). The Saints also boasted Coach of the Year honors, which went to Jim Hilvert, and Player of the Year laurels, which went to senior linebacker Brad Steinmetz.
