Dawson named Waynesburg Athlete of the Week
Junior quarterback picks up accolade after leading team to 38-17 win

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 13) – After guiding the Yellow Jacket football team to a 38-17 win over Thiel back on Saturday, Nov. 7, junior quarterback Brad Dawson was named the Waynesburg University Athlete of the Week.

 

With no women’s teams in action over the week of Nov. 1-7, no women’s athlete of the week was selected.

 

Dawson earned the award after putting together stellar numbers in the Yellow Jackets’ 38-17 PAC win over Thiel on Saturday. The Pittsburgh native threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions on 23-of-37 pass attempts.  

 

The standout signal-caller also rushed for 49 yards and a fourth score on the day.

 

His efforts also earned the Pittsburgh native the title of Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Offensive Player of the Week for football.

 

The Yellow Jackets wrap up their regular season on Saturday when they travel north to face Washington & Jefferson in the PAC Backyard Brawl, as part of PAC Rivalry Week.

Jessi Drayer
Women's Basketball
Drayer poured in a team-high 21.0 points per game for the 1-1 Yellow Jackets this past week. She was the team’s leading scorer in both games, going for a game-high 23 points against Westminster, before pouring in a contest-best 19 points in a win over Geneva. The Waterford, Ohio native averaged 21 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game this week.
Dan Bruni
Wrestling
Bruni went 3-0 during Waynesburg’s home quad-match against Penn State Greater Allegheny, Penn State Beaver and Penn State Fayette. The sophomore won two matches by major decision and scored a fall in just 31 seconds over Greater Allegheny’s Soham Salvi.

The Waynesburg football team is 2-0 all-time against Penn State. The last time they met was in 1932, when the Jackets won 7-6.

Head wrestling coach Ron Headlee was a three-time NAIA All-American at Messiah College and the school's first NCAA All-American.
