PLEASANT UNITY, Pa. (Oct. 3) – The Waynesburg University men’s cross country team was in action on Saturday, at the Westmoreland County Fairgrounds to compete in the seventh annual Pitt-Greensburg Cross County Invitational.

 

As a team, the men placed sixth in a field of nine squads.

 

Waynesburg was paced by the freshman-senior combo of Kyle Edwards and Adam Swingle. Edwards finished with a team-best time of 30:42, good for 31st place. Swingle followed in 32nd place with a time of 30:48.

 

Junior Bill Moder placed 38th with a time of 31:14.

 

Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) rivals Grove City took the team championships on both the men’s and women’s sides. The Wolverines also boasted the top individual men’s and women’s performers.

 

Sara Fisher won the women’s race with a time of 24:23, while Garrett Cichowitz bested the men’s field with a time of 27:03.

 

Both the Waynesburg men’s and women’s team will return to action on Oct. 10, when they run at Carnegie Mellon. It is the final tune up for Waynesburg before the PAC championships

Nick Garber
Wrestling
Garber beat some of the best Division III wrestlers in the country on his way to finishing seventh at this year’s Division III National Wrestling Championships this past weekend in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After losing his opening match, Garber bounced back by beating Paul Marcello of Johns Hopkins 8-7 and picking up a dominating 13-6 upset win over fourth-seeded Sean White of Augsburg. The Waynesburg native then secured seventh place by beating Corey Brown of Thiel 13-6. He also became the school's first wrestling All-American since 2001.
Amanda Baughman
Softball
Baughman drilled a three-run double in the third inning of Waynesburg's 4-2 win over Trine to break up a scoreless tie and give the Jackets a 3-0 lead. When she was in the field, the native of Washington, Pa. allowed just two hits and a walk, while picking up a pair of strikeouts. She didn’t allow a hit through the first three innings of the seven-inning affair. She was also named PAC Pitcher and Hitter of the Week.
