Women's volleyball drops home contest to Bethany
Yellow Jackets and Bison take part in "Dig for the Cure" campaign

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Oct. 22) – The Waynesburg University women’s volleyball team fell by the final of 3-1 to Bethany on Thursday night at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.

 

The Bison (13-12, 4-7) and the Yellow Jackets (5-18, 2-11) split the first two sets, with Bethany taking the first set 26-24 and the Jackets rebounding with a 25-23 win in set two. Unfortunately, the visitors closed up the victory with triumphs in set three (25-12) and set four (25-16).

 

The Jacket attack was led by sophomore Jordan Barton, who racked up a team-high 12 kills, while junior Rachell Storm had another solid defensive performance with 24 digs. Freshman Presley Cupp chipped in 14 digs.

 

Freshman Carly Smithyman recorded a Waynesburg-best 27 assists in the loss.

 

Though Waynesburg couldn’t find victory over the Bison, the night was still a positive one, as the Yellow Jackets took part in the “Dig for the Cure” program, which raises money for Breast Cancer research and awareness.

 

Waynesburg is back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 27, when they travel to Saint Vincent to face the Bearcats.

Bruni went 3-0 during Waynesburg’s home quad-match against Penn State Greater Allegheny, Penn State Beaver and Penn State Fayette. The sophomore won two matches by major decision and scored a fall in just 31 seconds over Greater Allegheny’s Soham Salvi.
Jessi Drayer
Women's Basketball
Drayer poured in a team-high 21.0 points per game for the 1-1 Yellow Jackets this past week. She was the team’s leading scorer in both games, going for a game-high 23 points against Westminster, before pouring in a contest-best 19 points in a win over Geneva. The Waterford, Ohio native averaged 21 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game this week.

Waynesburg played in the first televised football game. The Yellow Jackets faced Fordham on Sept. 20, 1939 in Randalls Island, N.Y.
