SALEM, Va. (July 23)-Waynesburg University sophomore running back
Robert Heller and senior defensive end
DJ DeWitt were both recently honored as second-team pre-season All-Americans by D3football.com.
Heller (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold) is coming off of one of the greatest seasons ever by a Yellow Jacket running back.
Last year, the former Ringgold Ram led the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and all of Division III with 197.8 rushing yards per game. His 14.7 points scored per game were good enough to place him third in Division III.
All told, the then-freshman sensation rushed for 2,176 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also became the first player in school history to run for more than 300 yards in a game.
As a junior, DeWitt (Vanderbilt, Pa./Connellsville) exploded for his best season in a Yellow Jacket uniform. The former Connellsville Falcon set career highs in tackles, sacks, tackles for loss (TFL) and pass break-ups.
He ranked in the top 30 of Division III with 1.0 sacks/game and 1.8 TFL/game. DeWitt, a first-team all-conference selection last season, set a single-game school record with 4.5 sacks in a thrilling 27-23 night victory at Grove City College.
Heller and DeWitt join Washington & Jefferson's Bobby Swallow, Dave Bucar and Matt Huoy on the web site's All-American team as PAC representatives.
Waynesburg hits the field to open the 2008 season on Saturday, September 6, at 1:30 p.m. with visiting non-conference opponent Wooster.
