Yellow Jacket women finish season on high note

WASHINGTON, Pa. (Oct. 20) – The Waynesburg women’s tennis team finished the 2008 regular season on a very high note as they swept past Washington and Jefferson in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) match on Monday.

 

The win improved the Yellow Jackets’ PAC record to 3-3 and jumped their overall mark to 4-10. W&J dropped to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

 

Laura Garcia, Allie Horochak, Jess Mally and Jessica Kody all picked up a match in the singles and doubles ranks each.

 

Kelsey Diesel and Jenny McAndrews also picked up a win at third doubles by beating Kim Knapek and Carrie Campbell 8-2.

 

With the regular season complete, the young and improving Jackets turn their attention to the Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie, Pa. for the PAC Championships. The event will begin on Thursday, Nov. 23 and runs until Saturday, Nov. 25.

Women's Basketball
Jones averaged a team-high 19 points per game for Waynesburg his past week. Her 22 points against Bethany not only led all scorers in that contest, but it was also the top individual scoring performance for a Waynesburg player this season. Jones also averaged three rebounds and an impressive 3.5 blocks per contest.

Wrestling
Byerly picked up Waynesburg’s biggest bout win during a 21-16 loss to West Liberty State, the 12th-ranked team in Division II. The sophomore beat Mitch Smith, the number-two ranked 149-pounder in Division II, by 6-5 decision. Byerly has now won six of his last seven bouts,
